This Is An Online White Card Course

The online white card course is a comprehensive alternative to completing the face to face classroom course. Please make sure that you meet the eligability requirements before starting online training.


This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to undertake Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) induction training within the construction industry.

It requires the ability to demonstrate personal awareness of OHS legislative requirements, and the basic principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness in the construction industry.

The unit relates directly to the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2006).


This online white card course is designed to meet OHS regulatory authority requirements for OHS induction and must be achieved before access to any building and construction work site.

CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

The online white card course is aimed at all workers carrying out construction work, including:

  • self-employed persons
  • labourers
  • apprentices
  • trades-persons
  • supervisors
  • project managers

Students will learn the basic principles of health and safety in the construction industry as well as information about preventing workplace injury and illness, workplace injury management and workers compensation.

  • The identification of construction hazards and control measures
  • OHS communication and reporting processes
  • OHS incident response procedures



Eligability Requirements:

You must be aware that the course must be undertaken in Australia and:

  • To obtain a WA white card, you must complete the online course in WA and be a WA resident.
  • You must be at least 14 years old.
  • You must provide the required forms of ID.

This white card course covers:


  1. Identify OHS legislative requirements.
    1. Applicable OHS legislative requirements relevant to own work, role and responsibilities are identified and explained.
    2. Duty of care requirements are identified.
    3. Own responsibilities to comply with safe work practices are identified and explained.
  2. Identify construction hazards and control measures.
    1. Basic principles of risk management are identified.
    2. Common construction hazards are identified and discussed.
    3. Measures for controlling hazards and risks are identified.
  3. Identify OHS communication and reporting processes.
    1. OHS communication processes, information and documentation are identified and discussed.
    2. Role of designated OHS personnel is identified and explained.
    3. Safety signs and symbols are identified and explained.
    4. Procedures and relevant authorities for reporting hazards, incidents and injuries are identified.
  4. Identify OHS incident response procedures.
    1. General procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies are identified and explained.
    2. Procedures for accessing first aid are identified.
    3. Requirements for the selection and use of relevant personal protective equipment are identified and demonstrated.
    4. Fire safety equipment is identified and discussed.



To complete this online white card course and be issued with a White Card involves successfully providing, completing and passing the following;

  • Online lesson modules
  • Online multiple choice assessment
  • Online practical assessment interview
  • Independent witness declarations for assessments
  • All sections are compulsory. Payment or proof of payment (course access code) is required when you submit your paperwork



Award issued:


Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:

  • CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry


  • A Western Australia Work safely in the construction industry card (for WA residents only)


Pre-course study options:


  • There is no pre-course study required for this online white card course.


To complete the course you will need:


  • An individual email address.
  • This online white card course will require you have a stable broadband internet connection available at all times. It is your responsibility to ensure that these requirements are met. While the course can be viewed on a mobile device it will depend on your wi-fi or broadband connection to ensure a seamless experience.
  • We recommend you use Google Chrome as the preferred browser when viewing this course online.
  • Each participant will be required to have their own email address in order to create and access an account for the online course.
  • You will need to have sound computer skills and sound language and numeracy skills to complete the course.

IMPORTANT - Required Equipment: 

  • Hard hat
  • Protective glasses or goggles
  • Earmuffs or earplugs
  • High visibility retro reflective vest

Please make sure that you have all of these items on hand before you book your interview session. You will be required to physically demonstrate how to put on the items listed above during the Practical Assessment Interview at the end of the course. If you book your interview but do not have the equipment, your interview will be cancelled and you may have to pay a re-booking fee.

You can either borrow the items or buy the equipment required from any hardware store, such as Bunnings or Mitre 10.

As another option, you can purchase the required equipment through our online shop, which will be made available once you register for the course. The equipment will then be sent out to you by express post, guaranteed to arrive the next business day.

White Card License Online $55.00

Please do not pay for, or start the online white card course, unless you are prepared to undertake all of these requirements. No refunds will be given once the course has been accessed.


Course duration:

The online white card course will take approximately 6 hours to complete. Depending on your literacy and numeracy skill levels you may finish the course in a shorter time-frame.
